Our epic voyage across the Atlantic begins! We sail 575 nautical miles from Gibraltar to Porto Santo Island in the Atlantic Ocean. In this episode we explore the island and learn about Christopher Columbus who lived here with his wife, Felipa Perestrello, and their son, Diego. We also see evidence of climate change impacting Porto Santo. We learn how small islands are particularly vulnerable to land loss, extreme weather, as well as food and water insecurity due to climate change.
