After waiting at Cape Upstart for our diving permit to arrive, we sail to the Yongala shipwreck, rated as Australia's #1 and in the top ten worldwide wreck dive site. We last dived this historic shipwreck nearly 30 years prior and the site was even better than we recalled. To dive the Yongala you require an entry permit as the site is on the historic shipwreck register. These are obtained online through: http://www.environment.gov.au/heritage/underwater-heritage/visiting-underwater-heritage-sites Select "Permit application for entry into a protected zone or to impact underwater cultural heritage" and complete the details. The process takes up to 2 weeks so you need to plan ahead.
