Disastrous Setup - We Can't Work Like This | S2 Ep32
Welcome back to sailing NV, where we've just hauled out our Open 66 which we've been sailing around the world on as a family for the last 2 years, after a giant 2 year refit in Fiji converting her into a fast family cruiser. But now thanks to an unexpected gearbox failure, we needed to haul the boat out of the water to replace the sail drive? not an easy task when cruising in remote parts of Asia with a 4.2metre keel. After finally finding a potential yard in the north of Borneo, we travelled 1500nm through pirate territory and reefy areas to meet the yard owner to discuss our options in person. With a bit of persuasion he agreed to let us try an unusual haul out setup and to dig a pit in the yard to put our keel in so that we wouldn't be sat so high out of the water. There's a lot of logistics involved in hauling out a boat like ours, not only finding a yard with the right depth for our extreme keel, and a big enough travel lift with straps the right length to get us above ground level, but we also have to plan carefully how to sit the boat safely so high out of the water and in this case we really wanted to dig a pit. Unfortunately the yard manager/team didn't follow our suggestions for the seating setup... 00:00 - Intro 01:37 - Haul out recap 04:05 - The trouble starts... 09:02 - Barnacle scraping 10:29 - Building the seating 13:44 - Trying to refill the pit 14:18 - More seat building action 17:21 - Releasing the weight from the straps 18:32 - Reflections about the cruising lifestyle 20:56 - The trouble continues 21:59 - Outro ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you'd like to support us on Patreon, our website https://www.patreon.com/SailingNV or with a one-off donation via https://ko-fi.com/sailingnv or paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/sailingnv or if you'd like to help us buy something we need, you can check out our amazon wish list https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1G2NJ0EGJLKR0?ref_=wl_share THANK YOU!!!
