Day 24. What happens when you trust your gut more than your calculations?

When you're sailing around the world without GPS, knowing where you are becomes a little more complicated. One of the methods Mara uses is called dead reckoning. It's a traditional navigation technique where you estimate your current position based on your last known position, the direction you've been sailing, your speed and how much time has passed. Basically, figuring out where you SHOULD be, based on how you've been moving. But here's the interesting part. Mara actually trusts her dead reckoning more than her celestial navigation calculations! 😂 Why? Because when taking measurements with a sextant, it's surprisingly easy to make a small mistake that can throw off the final position. With dead reckoning, she's constantly following Showgirl's movements and building a picture of where she believes she is. And so far? She hasn't been wrong! 👀 Of course, neither method is perfect, especially when currents and wind can push the boat off course. But that's part of the challenge of the Golden Globe Race. No GPS telling you exactly where you are. Just traditional navigation, experience and a lot of trust in your own abilities.
