This week we unearth our favourite atoll yet, Apataki. We head from Toau to Apataki in convoy with our mates on sailboat Gea. The sail is that exquisite beam reach sailing all sailors dream of and the dreaded pass is a piece of cake thanks to another yacht passing through before us and being our guinea pig… If only the captain would bloody concentrate! Jackson is very distracted and has eyes on everything but our course. We make it into the anchorage and it’s just the two of us, which is nice. This place turns out to be a complete treasure trove. There is no ciguatera poisoning on the reef so spearfishing almost anything is fair game, freediving is off it’s head and Jackson & Dave score the best waves they’ve ever surfed in their lives.
