Bustard Head Lighthouse

This lighthouse, built in 1868, was the first to be built by the Queensland Government. It was built by Hennet & Spink in Bridgwater, UK, and the cast iron sections were shipped here and reassembled. We were able to view its light from at least 20NM out at sea when sailing in from the Capricornia Island Group. The lighthouse keeper Stuart Buchanan is rightly passionate about this beautiful structure and has dedicated substantial portions of his life to its upkeep and improvements.
