The cranse iron, or bowsprit cap, seems to have been a piece that was cast with imperfections. It did serve Victoria for a good long time without issue, and the hardware failure wasn't catastrophic. We don't expect the same thing to happen with other reclaimed pieces of hardware around Arabella.
