Gelcoat surfaces differ from clear coat (the paint found on cars), in that gelcoat is a lot more forgiving than clear coat because it is a thicker material. There are several ways to remove oxidation from gel-coat surfaces--wetsanding, compounding, polishing and a combination of all of the above. The key to keeping up with your boats appearance is having a proper maintenance schedule where you are waxing once or twice a season. However, how you store your boat when its not in use and the weather conditions your boat is exposed to will also determine how often you need to wax the gel-coat surfaces.
