Balance 540 Build Update: Inside the Hulls with Phil Berman

189 Bekeken· 06/11/26

Phil Berman of Balance Catamarans and Roger Paarman Director of Operations at the St Francis Yard, take you aboard the new Balance 540 as production moves forward. This walkthrough features the four-cabin owner’s version, one of six layouts available on the 540. Because the hulls widen gradually aft, the 540 fits a private aft owner’s suite with a full queen-sized bed, a vanity desk, and a walk-in shower behind a smoked Lexan panel that fills the cabin with light. Forward, you’ll see a second queen cabin (which owners can convert to storage with deck hatch access), a private forward head and shower, and a generous sail locker with a large Bombay hatch. On the port side, the shared head and shower are split so one person can shower while another uses the head, doubling as a day head. The aft port cabin adds a step for easier bed access, an opening port that allows airflow even in the rain, and a pantry that cleverly hides the daggerboard trunk. Structurally, the 540 features carbon floors and partition panels, carbon stringers running from the bow aft, and both a forward crash box and a watertight crash box below the floor. Increased bridgedeck clearance and headroom round out the upgrades, all wrapped in the signature Balance look with recessed window lines and a blended sheer. The first eight Balance 540s are already nearly spoken for. The 540 succeeds the groundbreaking Balance 526, and we can’t wait to get her in the water. Interested in the layouts or have questions?
