You Can't Learn to Build by Just Watching YouTube | Soulianis - Ep. 136

We're tackling one of the biggest steps in our post-frame barn build: getting the roof trusses up. Between a telehandler rental ticking away at a thousand dollars a day, figuring out how to install purlins 20+ feet in the air, and learning that some ideas work a whole lot better on paper than they do in real life, there's plenty to keep us humble. We also get some unexpected help from a neighbor and welcome a new baby into the family right in the middle of all the construction chaos (because apparently we didn't have enough going on! 🫠). We've done a ridiculous amount of planning and research, but as one of the most eloquent speakers of our day has stated, “Everyone has a plan until you get punched in the mouth.” There's nothing quite like actually building the thing to show you how little you truly know. Have you tackled a big DIY building project? We’d love to hear what you learned along the way, especially if you've got post-frame construction experience… Tell us what we did wrong (or right) in the comments! ❤️ Lauren, Kirk, Renata & Kai Chapters 00:00 The barn build so far 00:55 Three years later… are we still building? 02:08 The slow way to build 06:25 Getting the trusses ready 08:10 A new baby joins the chaos 09:33 The big day: raising the roof trusses 10:05 Learning as we go12:26 Purlins, problems, and lessons learned Filmed: October 2023 ⛵ FOLLOW THE JOURNEY We started this channel in 2017 after buying our first sailboat.
