After 10 Weeks in the Boat Yard... We Finally Escaped - Chasing Serenity Episode 29

19 Views· 05/07/26

After 10 weeks stuck in a Fort Lauderdale boat yard following our grounding in the Florida Keys, we were finally ready to leave... or so we thought. Just before departure we discovered our Volvo Penta engine had another problem—a leaking oil pan. Because our engines had been installed too low, the oil pan couldn't even be removed without first raising the engine. In this episode of our full-time sailing family adventure aboard our Royal Cape 500 catamaran, we: -Discover a leaking Volvo Penta oil pan -Raise the engine to replace the oil pan -Add spacers to raise the engine brackets -Build a lifeline gas can storage bracket -Rebuild more systems after months in the yard -Deal with an unexpected stowaway mouse -Finally leave the marina after more than two months -Spend our first night back at anchor -Celebrate Ana catching her very first catfish After months of repairs—including rebuilding rudders, fiberglass work, steering repairs, an engine rebuild, and recovering from running aground in the Florida Keys—we're finally back where we belong: cruising again. If you enjoy sailing, boat projects, catamarans, cruising the Bahamas, family adventures, and seeing what it really takes to keep an older cruising boat going, we'd love to have you aboard. ⛵ Subscribe for new episodes every week as we continue our journey toward the Bahamas aboard our 50-foot Royal Cape catamaran. #sailing #catamaran #liveaboard #boatlife #boatprojects #volvopenta #cruising #bahamas #floridakeys
