29. Who loves night sailing? | 2 night passage Dubrovnik to Corfu | Sailing Greece
This week we leave Croatia and complete a 2 night passage to Greece. We check out of Gruz Harbour in Dubrovnik at 9pm and set sail for Corfu. Our plan is to sail directly off the coast of Dubrovnik before catching the strong Northerly winds predicted, sailing past Montenegro and Albania before arriving at Ipsos on Corfu Island, Greece. Unfortunately not all goes to plan with the wind and forecast and after a great start when we sail the first 4 hours but then have to motor sail before the unthinkable happens, we have to motor. Fortunately this is short lived and the wind gods allow for a down wind sail. The conditions are still messy and this leads to a uncomfortable sea state. During the trip we are fortunate to be accompanied by two large pods of Dolphins, 1 pod deep in the Adriatic sea off Montenegro and one close to the rocky mountains off Albania, both pods bow ride Kawai which is a thrill and it's an awesome experience. With strong winds off the mountains Kawai is inundated with beach toys floating amongst the big seas. We collect three floatation devices but see many more but due to the sea state find them impossible to collect. Jase tries his luck fishing the entire trip without luck. Coming into Corfu we are stalked by a huge Tuna which follows Kawai from Albania to Greece. The Tuna is not interested in the two lures behind Kawai but effortlessly swims up and back circling Kawai. The winds really pick up as we sail the Corfu coastline reaching 34 knots as we pull the sails down at our anchorage at Ipsos. We find a nice sand patch where we drop the anchor and after a couple of hours of strong winds the bay settles where we swim in the clear waters as the sun goes down. We love completing over night passages, as you never know what you are going to see or get which makes it so exciting. You are more isolated making for more of an adventure. The sailing on this trip is also more challenging with a larger swell and inconsistent winds at times. All in all it was a great 2 night, 2 day passage, hopefully you enjoy watching it unfold. We really enjoyed sailing the Croatian Islands but can't wait to explore the Greek Islands. We have sailed some of the Greek Islands previously but with so many different Islands to choose from the coming months will be a lot of fun. Subscribe if you want to see more :) About us: Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai. We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the next year we hope to sail to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia. Jase loves making travel videos and we decided to upload to youtube to share our adventure. We really hope you enjoy and feel free to drop us a comment any time to chat or subscribe to follow along :) Instagram Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jase_stephe...
