What an amazing week! We completed our sail across the Cyclades Islands, Greece and cruise past Piraeus, Athens where our sailing and boat buying journey all began almost exactly 1 year ago. Just in time we make it to the somewhat sheltered Kalamaki anchorage near the Corinth Canal before 50-60 knot winds hit all around us. After a few days hanging out with all the large ships waiting for the blow to stop we get our first glimpse of the amazing Corinth Canal and then we get to cruise through the Corinth Canal! Did you know the Corinth canal cuts off the 240 km journey around the Peloponnese. It is 6.3 km long and ranges between 21 and 24 meters wide. The depth is between 6.5 – 8 meters and roughly 12000 ships pass through per year. The Corinth Canal has a lot of history, including being put out of action by the Germans at the end of World War 2. Today the canal is susceptible to landslides, the last of which closed the canal for two weeks in February 2018. It is also host to swimming contests, Jet Ski passages and bungee jumping. Once on the other side we enter the Gulf of Corinth between mainland Greece and the Peloponnese and the calmness of the Corinth Canal is quickly forgotten as we encounter continuous 30 knot gusts off the mountains and building waves. Finally the gusts and waves settled down, however we face our next challenge as our prop is fouled by an unknown object. The next day we watch another brilliant sunrise as we cruise through snow capped mountains towards the world's longest cable-stayed bridge the Rion - Antirion Bridge towards the Ionian Islands, Greece. If you are interested in the process of passing through the Rion - Antirion Bridge, we show what we experienced. Hope that helps :) Thank you for watching, we hope you enjoy! If you have a question please ask, we will always get back to you :) About us: Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse sailing boat, Kawai. We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the next year we hope to sail to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Gibraltar, Canary Islands and then across the Atlantic Ocean. Jase loves making travel videos and we decided to upload to youtube to share our adventure. We really hope you enjoy and feel free to drop us a comment any time to chat or subscribe to follow along :) Instagram Trace: https://www.instagram.com/trace_y02/?hl=en Jase: https://www.instagram.com/jase_stephens1/?hl=en Music 1.
