Why did we sell our house and the security of life on land for a sailboat? With no experience whatsoever of sailing, or living on a boat, we took a huge gamble in order to escape the normalities of life and do something a little crazy. We bought a boat! So, we seriously considered all of our options. We had Ellie (our dog) at the time, so whatever it was we were going to do, she had to be there with us! So, it left us with 2 options. Could we buy a campervan, or by a van and convert it into something we could live in full time? We decided a camper wasn't the best solution for us. So that left us with one option. A boat. So we sold our house, bought a boat, and learnt to sail. Sounds simple. But it's been a CRAZY journey of learning a lot, stressing out a lot, and being thrown into so many circumstances that would terrify you 2 years ago! And, through all the struggles, it has been the best decision of our lives. Now. We just need to figure out how we can can make some money so we can stay out here....any ideas? Grouper was one of the first fish I ate when I started getting big into seafood about four years ago. Chef notes: Normally when I cook I marinate whatever I’m cooking in a liquid marinade. Last night when I did my grouper I didn’t do that, I only used olive oil and used my mix of seasonings. Here is the latest episode full of adventure as we sail down Central America from Mexico to Costa Rica. We hit a road block with the officials before we even set off! We have to forecast a light wind passage through the Gulf of Tehuantepec and the Papagayo winds while still having enough wind to sail the whole passage. Then about half way through our passage... pirates!? Maybe?! Or it could be fishermen setting lines that we could lay victim to in a few short hours. We must sail past Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua to get to Costa Rica and each section has its own challenges. The biggest challenge being the lines caught around our rudders and prop in the middle of the night requiring a night swim or two... Not ideal! Safe to say we sometimes wonder why we choose to sail. Never-the-less, we manage each difficulty as it arrises and only get stronger and more resilient along the way.
