In Luang Prabang leben in den 86 Tempeln mehr als 1000 Mönche. Daher wollten wir gerne sehen, wo sich die Schule der Mönche befindet. An einem Tag gingen wir daher auf Suche und kamen nach vielen fälschlichen Aussagen doch noch an der versteckten Schule an. Unsere Hartnäckigkeit wurde belohnt. An einem abgelegenen Berghang der Stadt Luang Prabang befanden sich zwei neue große Schulgebäude, die wir ganz einfach betraten. Wir grüßten alle ganz freundlich und trafen schließlich ganz schnell auf einen 18jährigen Mönch, der sich mit uns sehr gut in Englisch verständigen konnte. Er gab uns zu verstehen, dass wir sehr gerne bleiben können und er uns gerne Informationen zu seiner Schule gibt. Für uns ein so toller Moment! An der Schule war insgesamt eine sehr entspannte und freundliche Stimmung und sie schienen sich zu freuen Gäste zu haben. Er erklärte uns, das in dieser Schule ca. 700 junge Mönche unterrichtet wurden. Zwischen 10 und 19 Jahren war es Jungen gestattet, diese Schule zu besuchen. Mahina means 'Moon' in the Pacific Islands of Polynesia and we love this name because the moon figures so much in our life. Since we started living on the water it seems that we are in constant contact with the natural world around us, and the moon and her silvery reflection keep us company when we're on night passages or popping up on deck to wonder anew at the beauty of our 'back yard'. Shane is a Kiwi (New Zealander), Mimi was born in Brittany (France) and Jellybean has a proud lineage that goes back to her seafaring ancestors in Malta. But all three of us are lucky to live in Australia, a place of wonder and natural vibrancy that never ceases to amaze us. We hope that we have captured some of the essence of this beautiful and sometimes harsh environment that we call home and what it's like to live on Mahina as full-time mariners.

A huge part of the attraction of the sailing lifestyle is being able to anchor in beautiful remote parts of the world. The camaraderie of the sailing community is another. In this episode we anchor by a remote island in the Ria de Arousa where we meet up with SY Heron after not seeing them since A Coruña. In the same anchorage is the sailing yacht Mahi Mahi, another Dutch boat that we know. With friends around a beach party is bound to happen. So we break out the potjie once again.
