We sailed 24 hours, most of it motoring because the wind was on the nose and we needed to make time before the weather window closed. I'm super excited to be in Oostende because it's our first stop in a new State! It feels like we're really making progress. And the cat is getting his sea legs, happier and happier to arrive in new ports.

Chris is an American Actor, Adaptive Athlete, and Disability Advocate from Brooklyn, NY. Chris became disabled in September of 2007 due to sustaining gunshot injury which caused permanent paraplegia at the T12 spinal level. Follow Chris on Instagram at @bigg.poppa_ Impossible Dream Media Lab is a workshop designed to give content creators living with a disability an open forum to create and show their work. Using The impossible Dream as a platform we invite filmmakers and content creators on board for a seminar, facilitated by an industry professional, on technical aspects of production and narrative storytelling. Then we go sailing. The participants then film their experience and produce a short video. It is our goal to encourage Filmmakers in the disabled community to create work and seek out opportunities in the media industry. Please enjoy and share these videos. I hope you have as much fun watching them as we did making them. A special Thank You to John Floresca, a professional Cameraman and filmmaker based in New York, for leading this Summer's Media Lab.

I started this series of Advanced Seamanship Notes (Episodes 115-117) to bring to light specific areas of sailing knowledge which are A. difficult to locate in sailing resources on-line or off, and B. provided by a Mariner who is recognizably a 'Master' - in the true sense of the word. Captain J H Illingworth was considered the 'father of offshore sailing & racing' in postwar Britain. He started the Junior Offshore Group in the UK, acted as Commodore for the Royal Ocean Racing Club , but also was the instigator of the Sydney to Hobart Race in Australia, in 1945. That alone could be pedigree enough for my purposes- but add to that the fact that he was also a decorated submarine Captain in WWII, and suddenly you may realize, as I did; that what Capt. Illingworth did not know about waves and the upper layers of the ocean and their effect on a sailing boat is little more than chafe on the wind. Come take a knee, as I have, at the hand of a Master Mariner- and let's learn some more about Ocean Racing Strategy Youtube Video Episode - Available 8 hours after the episode appears on podcast streams Come watch the carnage in person! https://youtube.com/live/FVFp0SCwzJA?feature=share The Mariner's Library Podcast If you would like to listen to fantastic stories of sailors in small vessels taking on the ocean in the last 150 years, all selected & read by me an actual sailor, check out the 'Mariner's Library'. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-mariners-library/id1710666955 Finally, to support the production of this material please consider heading over to Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/themariner Edward William Insurance. This episode I reading and discussing chapters 5 & 6 of 'Sailing Alone Around the World' by Captain Joshua Slocum In the commentary I take time to share my experience of sailing the same route that Slocum follows in this section of the book and unpack the vocabulary, technical details and what it feels like to engage in some of the exploits Slocum shares with us.
