Episode 017 Since changing to a nomadic lifestyle, we've had such rich experiences. We've been so fortunate to visit and spend time in some of New Zealand's most beautiful places that not many people get to see. With time on our side, there's no need to rush and we can just enjoy these places and build memories. In this video we visit the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary on the South Island of New Zealand and make our way down to Christchurch...but not before visiting the Ohau point seal colony. What a privilege it was to see all these seals and their pups thriving, especially after the massive 708 magnitude earthquake that happened in Kaikōura in November 2016. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

Episode 029 Over the last 12 months since moving onboard our sailboat, Te Tāiko, we have been fortunate to be able to sail to and explore many of New Zealand's pest free islands that are home to some of our rare native species. There is nothing like the feeling of dropping anchor in one of these island's bays and having the freedom and time to explore them. There are many benefits to a sailing life but two of the major benefits are not having your time ruled by the expense nor the timetable ferry to visit these islands. You are only governed by the weather, and even that has a sense of mindfulness. Come along with us as we explore Moturua Island in the beautiful Bay of Islands in New Zealand. Could this be the most idyllic island in the Bay of Islands? Tell us what you think in the comments below. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. We started off by going to church in Grenada, which was about a mile away from the marina. It was lovely! We had a great time meeting the people. Then we decided to spend the evening at a relaxing place right by the marina. The kids had a great time in the pool and it was a wonderful way to end the day. Emerson loves climbing coconut trees whenever he sees one 😂. Our French friends have taught him well! The next day we decided to head out to see 'Chocolate museums'. It was so fascinating to see how the Grenadian chocolate was made, from the seed to the final product. We learned a lot from that! After that we decided to head to a waterfall called Annandale. It was located in a nice, relaxing forest and we had so much fun in the cold water. Emerson always end up catching different creatures and making friends with them. This time he caught a lizard. He's truly one with the nature! We spent the night having dinner with an awesome family. It was a great time. The next day we decided to go for a one last sail with my parents. After sailing to the south of Grenada it was time to say goodbye to them, so sad! So far Grenada has been awesome. We're loving it!! We will be spending a little more time here and then make our way back up north. Super excited! As always thank you for watching. See you on the next episode! Enjoyed the video? Today we put the motor pad back together, ready for putting back on the boat. The pad is looking awesome and I think it's going to be fine putting this back onto the boat. We also 3D print a few test letters for the new boat name plate. Lets hope they stick to the oily teak.! Next up the new paint has come so we can tidy up the deck and transom locker. It's Jotun acrylic paint from SML and I have high hopes for this. Lastly we look at a new pole system for the boat that should half the amount of wood we need on board. I'm not so sure t's going to work but it's a first stab and the final answer will come out of this in some way! Enjoy! 00:00 3D printing and oil! 02:55 Checking the Bumpkin leather 03:29 New paint! 05:15 A new pole system! 12:38 Putting the motor pad back together 15:41 Latest purchases 🌐 My new website: https://sailingwithdave.com ❤️ Comments are open, ask anything you want in the comments section! 📢 If you enjoyed this video, then please don't forget to share and let people know about the channel 🔔 Click here to "Subscribe" and never miss a video: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZVuUVKKtVxulmgL3WzejjQ?sub_confirmation=1
