This week we see two boats run aground while we explore Sidney Spit. I try to help refloat one of them and the kids spend a lot of time running around the island exploring the beach and old first nations sites. Jayne (Captain Mom) successfully pilots us through the very narrow Pender Canal without running aground and we witness one of the best sunsets the west coast has to offer. We're having a great time exploring and catching up with old friends and family while back in Vancouver. But I'm really starting to miss Family Circus and am looking forward to getting back to her in four weeks! The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. This was originally edited for my Cruising Off Duty channel but since it is a gear review, it belongs here as well. After years of filming with the Panasonic GH4 and GH5 and investing in the Panasonic Lenses, I have finally decided to switch to Sony. I just bought the Sony A7iii and that means investing in an entirely new line of lenses. It is not cheap! The reason? WEll, I just couldn't put up with Panasonic's unreliable Autofocus anymore. To get smooth shots you often want to put your camera on a gimbal but then you are swinging the camera around and not manually focussing and that means you have to trust that your autofocus will stay in focus and nut "hunt" for focus and ruining your shots. Sony is known for amazing autofocus but that does not mean that my GH5 is going in the garbage or going to collect dust. Far from it. There are still a lot of things that the Panasonic GH5 does better than the Sonys. Join me in the beautiful county of Dorset for some sight seeing. We Paddle Board in Kimmeridge Bay and learn about marine conservation and UK coral. Plus we go crabbing in Swanage, kayak to Old Harry's Rocks in Studland Bay and see SV Tenacious arriving in Poole. All mingled with the fun and silliness of Summer Breeze. Including of course the classic boat beer review, but this time on a paddle board. This was filmed while Summer Breeze was out of the water having her swing keel sand blasted, epoxied and anti-fouled. This gave me the opportunity to look at the condition of the prop and discover that the anode was nearly completely destroyed in just 3 months. I replace the anode and also coat the prop and shaft in prop shield, all of which are featured in this film.
