Inaugurata a Marina Monfalcone la Red Bull Sailing Academy, un modo nuovo di pensare la formazione nel mondo della vela agonistica. “L’obiettivo? Vincere medaglie, vincere medaglie olimpiche“. Hans-Peter Steinacher lo racconta così, senza paura e senza nessun giro di parole, lo scopo della Red Bull Sailing Academy. Il due volte oro olimpico sui Tornado (insieme a Roman Hagara) è il grande capo dell’accademia della vela d’eccellenza appena inaugurato al Marina Monfalcone. Un’inaugurazione in grande stile, dove oltre all’equipaggio al completo del Red Bull Italy SailGP Team (che qui avrà la sua sede di allenamento) guidato da James Spithill e Ruggero Tita c’erano anche alcuni degli specialisti di sport estremi supportati dal brand austriaca: l’asso della slackline Jaan Roose, che giusto un anno fa attraversò sulla fettuccia lo Stretto di Messina, gli “high diver” della Red Bull Cliff Diving World e poi Nikolas Plytas con suo i trick di foilboard e Claudia Pagnini e Massimiliano Piffaretti con il loro show sui wakeboard. L’idea è rompere gli schemi e pensare la formazione di nuovi atleti, i più forti di loro, in maniera completamente nuova, o almeno nuova per la vela. L’attività di formazione si svolgerà poi a Monfalcone al Red Bull Athlete Performance Center dove come coach ci sarà, oltre che Stainacher e Hagara, anche Thomas Zajac (un bronzo alle Olimpiadi e un argento ai mondiali di Bogliaco 2009 sui Tornado). Qui l’idea è sviluppare le abilità degli atleti all’interno di un’accademia di eccellenza, dal punto di tecnico, atletico, mentale e dei materiali. In quest’ultimo ambito a capo del progetto c’è Andrea Caracci (ingegnere aeronautico, campione Italiano nei 470, oceanico e minista) che è responsabile delle misurazioni a terra e in acqua, di barche e attrezzature. Soprattutto sulle imbarcazioni volanti questo è un aspetto fondamentale e l’idea è quella di creare un grande database e un know-how di altissimo livello da mettere a disposizione degli atleti dell’Academy. Il progetto dell’Academy si inserisce in un progetto molto ampio che coinvolge tutta l’area di Monfalcone e del suo Marina. Qui tutte le strutture sono state recentemente ristrutturate e ammodernate (l’area è sempre proprietà Red Bull) e qui c’è anche la Tito Nordio, nata nel 1966 è la prima scuola ad essere stata riconosciuta ufficialmente dalla FIV. In più, a breve, anche la vicina Isola dei Bagni sarà allestita e integrata nel progetto. Il cerchio, in altre parole, si chiude: si prendono i bambini a sette anni e sugli Optimist nasce la passione ma lì, a pochi metri, c’è il luogo dove si allenano i grandi talenti di domani. The South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfish Tournament was founded in 1989 by former S.C. Governor, Carroll A. Cambell Jr. This tournament promotes sportfishing, conservation, research, and education in the Lowcountry. In the state of South Carolina, between the early days of sportfishing and the birth of the Governor's Cup, South Carolina anglers were landing around 70% of the Billfish caught. Now, they are releasing 99% of the fish caught. Because of the great efforts of the Governor’s Cup and its participants, anglers competing in the series have been able to produce some amazing catches. The Rascal, owned by Norman F. Pulliam and captained by Mark Rogers, topped the Governor’s Cup fleet in 2005. The Blue Marlin they landed that year weighed in at 881 lbs. and still holds the South Carolina state record today!
