9 out of 10 charterers fly into St Thomas — but their charter starts in the BVI. Here's why, and why it actually works better that way. ✈️ WHY EVERYONE LANDS IN ST THOMAS • Way more flight connections than into the BVI • It's a domestic US flight — easier and cheaper • Makes sense as your arrival airport ⚠️ WHY STARTING YOUR CHARTER FROM ST THOMAS IS TRICKY • Fewer and fewer yachts can legally pick up in St Thomas • BVI government is making cross-territory charters increasingly difficult • Charter companies sometimes get pulled over by BVI customs — food and drinks can be confiscated • You'll spend charter time clearing customs at both ends (sometimes hours) • You're losing precious "golden charter time" sitting at customs ✅ THE BETTER OPTION: Ferry or water taxi across, then board in the BVI • Ferry: ~3 main crossings per day, affordable • Water taxi: faster, more direct, they handle customs for you • Either way, you're not burning charter time on border crossings 📖 Full guide — Start in St Thomas or BVI? https://mybvicharter.com/bvi-yacht-charter-start-usvi-or-bvi/ 🔍 Search BVI Charter Yachts: https://mybvicharter.com/bvi-crewed-yacht-charter-search/ 🌴 Plan Your BVI Yacht Charter: https://mybvicharter.com/ ⚓ DMA Yachting — Charter Experts Since 2005: https://dmayachting.com/ https://mybvicharter.com/ https://mygreekcharter.com/ https://mycroatiacharter.com/ https://bahamasmotoryachts.com/ https://mymallorcacharter.com/ https://mycorsicacharter.com/ https://myturkishcharter.com/ https://charterguru.com/
Ferry or water taxi? A charter broker breaks down the two main options for crossing from St Thomas, USVI to the BVI — with real pricing, logistics, and insider tips. 🚢 FERRY (~$100 return per person) • The most common option — 3-4 companies rotate different days • Three main crossings: morning, midday & afternoon • Picks up from Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas • Drops off in Road Town or West End, Tortola • A bit complicated with multiple operators and schedules 🚤 WATER TAXI (~$800 + $50–60/person BVI clearance fees, one way) • Premium but worth it — hop on board, get a fresh drink • Cruise straight across at speed, way faster than the ferry • They go through customs daily so clearance is smooth and easy • Drop you directly at your charter yacht — no waiting around • More expensive but definitely faster and easier 📖 Full guide — Start in St Thomas or BVI? https://mybvicharter.com/bvi-yacht-charter-start-usvi-or-bvi/ 🔍 Search BVI Charter Yachts: https://mybvicharter.com/bvi-crewed-yacht-charter-search/ 🌴 Plan Your BVI Yacht Charter: https://mybvicharter.com/ ⚓ DMA Yachting — Charter Experts Since 2005: https://dmayachting.com/ https://mybvicharter.com/ https://mygreekcharter.com/ https://mycroatiacharter.com/ https://bahamasmotoryachts.com/ https://mymallorcacharter.com/ https://mycorsicacharter.com/ https://myturkishcharter.com/ https://charterguru.com/

This video breaks down five common mistakes first-time boat buyers make that can cost thousands or even the entire vessel. I've spent months researching how to buy a boat, talking to brokers, and reading forums, all to help you avoid these costly errors when looking for a boat for sale. Understanding these boating tips can save you a lot of trouble.
This is a super cool and comfortable day cruiser. There are 615 hours on the Volvo Penta 8.1Gxi 496ci 425hp duoprop engine package which has just had a recent service with us this spring and is running great. The interior is in great shape with snap out carpets, and a full canvas enclosure so you can be boating in all the weather. There’s a 4 speaker stereo with subwoofer, plus 2 tower speakers and a Bluetooth stereo. There’s a fridge freezer and sink above deck and a microwave below. Also comes with a BBQ which mounts on the swim platform. There is a good battery system with 2 x 6V house batteries which run an inverter, and 2 x 12V starting batteries for the motor. The head is a Vacuflush system which means there’s no pumping to flush the toilet and it uses very little water which increases your capacity in the tank. There’s a DVD / TV setup below deck, and the V berth is a nice size and in hardly used condition. Comes on the tandem axle trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes. Moorage space at Shuswap Marina is still available for the 2026 season! Drop by @shuswapmarina today to check it out! This is a consignment sale, no trades, thanks! Step inside the engine room and discover the essential checks required to keep a marine engine running safely and reliably. In this video, we focus on the key elements of engine maintenance, highlighting the critical areas that technicians monitor to prevent issues and ensure smooth operation. From overall condition checks to detailed inspections of piping, electrical systems, and fluid levels, every step plays a role in keeping the vessel operational. You’ll see how corrosion is assessed across equipment, why properly secured hoses and clamps are essential, and how simple checks can prevent long-term damage. We also cover the importance of bilge pump condition, electrical connections, and monitoring engine and gearbox oil to detect potential problems early — including signs of seawater contamination. Whether you’re a yacht owner or interested in yacht maintenance, this video offers a clear, practical look at what it takes to maintain engine reliability at sea. #YachtManagement #BoatMaintenance #MarineEngine #YachtOwnership #Sailing
Take a closer look at one of the most important systems on board — the batteries that power comfort and daily life on a yacht. In this video, we explore how battery systems are maintained and managed within a professional charter fleet to ensure a seamless onboard experience. From lighting and refrigeration to essential onboard equipment, reliable power is key to both comfort and safety. Our teams carry out annual battery testing during the winter maintenance period to monitor performance and anticipate any issues. Depending on the type of battery system — including gel or lithium — replacements are planned strategically throughout the yacht’s operational life. When needed, we replace the full battery pack rather than individual units, ensuring consistency across the system and maintaining optimal performance. This is a practical look at how proper battery management supports reliability, efficiency, and comfort on board every charter yacht. #YachtManagement #BoatMaintenance #YachtOwnership #MarineElectrics #Sailing
Take a closer look at the safety equipment checks that ensure every yacht is fully compliant and ready for the sea. In this video, we focus on the inspection and maintenance of all onboard safety gear — a critical step in preparing a vessel for both charter operations and handover. Every winter, our teams carefully review inspection timelines and verify that all equipment meets regulatory requirements. From life jackets and life rafts to flares and signalling devices, each item is checked for condition, functionality, and expiry dates. Alongside this, we ensure that essential onboard inventory — including toolboxes, fog horns, and mast chairs — is complete and ready for use. Before any yacht is delivered at the end of its phase-out process, all safety equipment must be fully operational, compliant, and ready for immediate use at sea. This is how we ensure every vessel meets the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. #YachtManagement #BoatSafety #YachtOwnership #BoatMaintenance #Sailing
Take a closer look at the inspection and maintenance of standing rigging — a critical component for both safety and sailing performance. In this video, we focus on how our teams monitor and maintain rigging systems, including cables, turnbuckles, chain plates, and mast fittings. These elements are essential to the structural integrity of the yacht and require regular attention throughout the season. Routine visual checks are carried out frequently, including after charters, to quickly identify any signs of wear or damage. During the winter maintenance period, rigging tension is carefully measured and adjusted using specialized tools to ensure optimal performance. In addition, independent professional inspections are conducted annually, often in line with insurance requirements, providing an extra level of verification and safety. As part of the phase-out process, a final detailed inspection ensures that all rigging is in proper condition — ready for safe sailing and the yacht’s next chapter. #YachtManagement #BoatMaintenance #YachtOwnership #Sailing #Rigging
Take a closer look at the systems that control anchoring and sailing performance — from the windlass to the sails. In this video, we focus on the inspection and maintenance of key deck equipment that plays a vital role in both safety and handling. The windlass, used for anchoring operations, is carefully tested to ensure smooth operation, proper load handling, and reliability when it matters most. At the same time, our teams inspect the sails to assess their condition after a full charter season. This includes checking for wear, damage, and overall performance to determine whether maintenance or replacement is required. Together, these systems are essential for safe manoeuvring, efficient sailing, and overall ease of use on board. As part of the phase-out process, all checks are carried out to ensure the yacht is fully operational and ready for its next journey — whether continuing in charter or transitioning to private use. #YachtManagement #BoatMaintenance #YachtOwnership #Sailing #CatamaranLife
Not everything on a yacht is replaced — so what is considered normal wear and tear? In this video, we take a closer look at how wear and tear is assessed throughout a yacht’s charter life, and what owners can expect at the end of the phase-out process. After multiple seasons and frequent charters, certain signs of use are natural. Our teams carefully evaluate the condition of each vessel, distinguishing between cosmetic aging and elements that require repair or replacement to maintain safety and performance. From interior finishes to exterior surfaces and equipment, this process ensures a fair and transparent approach when preparing the yacht for handover or its next stage. Understanding wear and tear is an important part of yacht ownership, helping set realistic expectations while ensuring the vessel remains reliable, well-maintained, and ready for continued use. #YachtManagement #YachtOwnership #BoatMaintenance #Sailing #CatamaranLife
