I am the second owner of this boat that I purchased in January of 2017. This has been my home and I have taken great care of it. It will be ready to just take off on your new adventures as the boat is serviced and and ready to go. With many in factory upgrades and after-market upgrades, she is in great shape. The Leopard 44 was named “Boat of the year” when it was introduced in 2011. The judges were raving over the speed on the water, easy handling and the revolutionary “forward cockpit.” The perfect balance of comfort, luxury and performance the L44 is the perfect live aboard solution. The 3-cabin layout features an owner-dedicated starboard hull with master stateroom, extra storage, and large head with separate stall shower. The desk area on the starboard side has been replaced with extra storage cabinets, for folded and hanging clothes. The staterooms aft on both sides have custom mattresses and I use some regular sheets and custom sheets. I have converted all the heads in the boat to fresh water flushing. I have had the cushions recovered in the main salon. The bilge light on the electric panel only showed a pump on. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. She is planked with 1 3/8” Port Orford cedar over steam bent white oak frames on 12” centers, is 51 feet overall, 45 feet on deck, has a 40 foot waterline, 6’ 10” draft, ~25 ton displacement and carries 1200 sq. ft. of sail. Launched in 1948 (as Evening Star), she was commissioned by Walter and Katy Maertens, who were one of the six founding commodore couples of the Seven Seas Cruising Association. They lived aboard in Glorietta Bay in San Diego for nearly 30 years. Every winter they cruised to Mexico, Central America and the Galapagos Islands. Summers often found them cruising the Channel Islands. The letters home of their cruising adventures and encounters with other early cruisers, like Eric and Susan Hiscock, were the inspiration for the SSCA bulletin. Das Wetter hat sich grundsätzlich geändert. Seit über einer Stunde schüttet es. Blitz und Donner kommen immer näher – der zeitliche Abstand wird immer kürzer. Bei jedem Blitz zucke ich zusammen – ich hasse das. Und plötzlich: Bämm!!!!!! Ohren betäubend laut schlägt ein Blitz in MariaNoa ein. Es stinkt verbrannt. Das 12V-Paneel blinkt chaotisch, das Victron- und das Scheibner-Paneel sind schwarz. Wir haben Schaden in der Elektronik. Welchen Schaden? Keine Ahnung. Wir checken zuerst die Bilgen. Wir scheinen aber keinen Wassereinbruch zu haben. Worst case ist, wenn der Blitz durchschlägt und ein Loch in den Rumpf unterhalb der Wasserlinie schlägt. Die Motoren können nicht gestartet werden, kein Licht in den Räumen. Das Windex liegt in Bruchstücken auf dem Deck verstreut, wir sind also direkt getroffen worden. Wenn ich doch nur mehr Ahnung von Elektronik hätte und wenigstens die Motoren zum Laufen bringen könnte. Mit dem Funkgerät, das eigentlich heile wirkt, können wir niemanden erreichen. Später finden wir auch die VHF-Antenne pulverisiert an Deck. Wir bauen eine Plane über die Motorenräume um irgendwie in ihnen arbeiten zu können. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich.
