Canadian Ken and I had to go check her out - she is about an hour away up in Winterport, ME, along the Penobscot River, an hour's sail to the open bay. She's hull #1 of the venerable Southern Cross 39 sailboats, designed by Thomas Gillmer (designer of the Allied Seawind Ketch, the 1st fiberglass sailboat to circumnavigate the globe!), and built by C.E. Ryder down in Rhode Island in 1981. She was factory finished, which is nice as many of these were sold as kits. She also has an Airex cored hull, a relatively new method at the time, perfected by C.E Ryder (it's closed cell Airex), deemed to be very strong and durable. The decks are balsa cored. This Southern Cross 39 is not perfect. She needs some work, but it appears to be mostly cosmetic and the pricing reflects this. These boats usually sell for much, much more - at least double this asking price. So, if you're a DIY sailor looking for a boat that needs a little TLC - but could probably take you around the world as is - this boat might be for you! Die Stadt Copán dominiert mit einer Fläche von rund 12 Hektar. Die sogenannte Akropolis besteht aus einer Vielzahl von Terrassen und Plattformen. Von der davor liegenden großen Fläche führen zwei mit Kalk bedeckte Dammstraßen zu vier großen Wohngebieten, die vor allem von Adeligen bewohnt wurden. Das einfache Volk besaß als Unterkünfte nur einfache Pfahlbauten. Die Anordnung der Gebäude und Komplexe nach dem viergeteilten Schema spiegelt das Weltbild der Maya wider. Die vier Wohnbezirke stellen die vier Himmelsrichtungen dar. 2024 update: I made it to Okinawa! What started as a plan for winter cruising has turned into what might be my final sailing adventure with Wahine. After four and a half incredible years—where Wahine has been my home, office, lab, and classroom—I've officially listed her for sale. Together, we've navigated over 70 ports in Japan and faced down COVID restrictions, engine failures, storms, volcanoes, and even tsunami warnings. While I love living on the water and intend to continue, a new health condition means I can't cross oceans anymore. Der Rio Dulce ist als s.g. Hurricanhole bekannt, hier suchen Segler während der jährlichen Hurricanseason Schutz. Falsch gedacht. Statt Schutz zu finden, nimmt MariaNoa den größten Schaden ihres Schiffslebens. Man sieht es MariaNoa nicht an, aber elektronisch gesehen, ist sie tot. Alles was einen Halbleiter hat, ist zerstört. Nichts geht mehr – keine Motoren, keine Navigation, keine Kommunikation. Wartezeit Die Wartezeit bis die ersten Ersatzteile in Guatemala eintreffen zieht sich unerträglich hin. Ich nutze die Zeit um den geschädigten Rumpf reparieren und mit neuem Antifouling versehen zu lassen. Alles was Weiß ist am Schiff wird gereinigt, gewachst und poliert. Außerdem arbeite ich eine lange To Do- Liste ab. Flucht aus Guatemala In diese Zeit fällt meine Abreise nach Deutschland. Der Landweg zum Flughafen von Guatemala Stadt ist jedoch versperrt. Ich verschiebe meinen Flug um zwei Tage aber die Situation im Lande wird eher noch schlimmer. Auch alternativ mit einem Hubschrauber oder mit einer Cessna zum Flughafen der Hauptstadt vorzudringen, scheitert. Es gibt kein Kerosin. Schließlich wird mein Flug von Guatemala City sogar annulliert. Ich muss erkennen, dass ich auf absehbare Zeit von Guatemala aus nicht nach Deutschland komme, ich am 30.
