Cruising sailboats under 40 feet are quite difficult design exercises. Width and height become limited, but all the necessities are still there. This Beneteau Oceanis 35.1 does a good job of it. The double doors turn an extension of your salon into a private cabin in the front. I also love how they designed the cabin in gray + wood + window desing of it. All in all, a very fine sailboat for 4 people. For six it would be quite limIted, as then there is basically no storage left. This Nautitech 40 Open catamaran does a few things differently. First of all it places the steering cockpits far aft and to the sides, so it doesn't look like a 3 storied building (Lagoon =] ). I also liked the large outside sitting area instead of a small cramped one (older Lagoons, again...). All in all the this 40 foot Open from Nautitech does look, well... open, uncluttered. This Gunfleet 58 definitely has space! And then it has some more space. Being used to sailboats in the lower 40' range, those above 50 or 60 (like in my Oyster video) borderline shock me with the room they provide. Plus it's a Centercockpit. Dragonfly trimarans are small, fun speed machines. They offer less (storage) space under deck than a monohull of comparable size, but a lot more real estate on deck (counting the nets). What you get in return is SPEED. Lots of it. Up to 21 knots and 1,3x wind speed, if we believe their claims. With as little as 35 cm (14") of draft this boats can sail anywhere. And then the smaller ones are even trailable. Sometimes you want to charter with a smaller crew or just own a nice cozy sailboat for your family. This is where the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 319 comes in. For a sailboat this size it is comfortable and sleeps 4+2 people. Add the shoal keel option for reduced draft and this yacht can go, where many larger ones can't. A welcome sight at the boat shows.
