Our new cruising yacht Viator Explorer 42 DS has 2x10KW electric motors as propulsion. Those motors can be used as hydrogenerators when sailing. We are testing this feature in this short video. The maximum output is about 21A, which equals about 1KW. But it is still very volatile, so we have to optimize the regeneration process. UBI Maior’s JB Jiber works without the usual aluminium extruded foil. Instead, the forestay is linked to the drum and swivel and rotates to furl the sail. It means that the sail can be hoisted up and down and the halyard tension can be adjusted at any time.
