The course is for novices and focuses on boating safety, NSW Boating regulations, low speed close quarters handling, navigation and seamanship, docking, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations. The course runs from 9am - 4pm and includes theory sessions and practical handling / skills work. We make sure you have enough practical boat skills to get your NSW General Boat License. Our vessels have the required safety gear, inflatable lifejackets and spray jackets for your use. Eastsails’ training vessels include: A custom built 8m tender with twin 115hp counter rotating outboard engines. An Arvor Weekender 23’ with an inboard 150hp engine bow thruster. A Haines Hunter 445R runabout with a 50hp 4 stroke outboard engine. Eastsail conducts this course in our classrooms or aboard the boats for practical sessions. We will show you through the 12m (40ft) Riviera 4000 Cruiser to ensure you understand what a larger cruiser looks like, the safety, engineering and interior space. Lunch break is for 30 minutes, food is not included but our marina has a cafe and toilets. A written quiz is given at the end of the day to assess your boating skills. The number one item on our checklist to ensure all divers onboard La Galigo have a safe and enjoyable diving experience, is to distribute our #divebuddies evenly into groups with a good diver to #DiveGuide ratio. We run groups of either 4 or 5 divers per guide to give you the best experience possible. This means we dive in three groups where each group has the same skills and experience, accompanied by our expert dive guides. So whatever the scenario we are plunging into, each team member can always find their group. As in the video above, our friend seemed to have a problem with her air tank being strapped in a little loose, but our ever watchful dive guide managed to help her with ease so she could quickly carry on the adventure. As a professional skipper who’s spent years at the helm of catamarans along this coast, I’ve had the privilege of exploring it all—from hidden coves to the bustling nightlife of Hvar. Let me take you behind the scenes of what it’s like to skipper a catamaran in one of Europe’s top sailing destinations. Why a Catamaran? Catamarans have become incredibly popular for charters in Croatia, and for good reason. They’re stable, spacious, and perfect for groups or families. With wide decks, roomy cabins, and shallow drafts, they allow us to anchor close to shore and offer a smooth ride, even when the wind picks up. As a skipper, I appreciate the visibility and maneuverability a catamaran offers. Whether docking in a tight marina like Skradin or anchoring off Pakleni Islands, the dual-engine setup gives me precise control, which is essential during high season when marinas are full and anchorages are busy. Typical Day on Board Mornings often start with a short sail after breakfast, taking advantage of calm seas and light breezes. Depending on the group’s mood, we might head for a quiet bay for swimming and paddleboarding or sail to a historic town like Korčula or Vis. By late afternoon, we usually drop anchor somewhere picturesque. I help guests get ashore via dinghy if they want to explore or grab a bite at a local konoba (traditional restaurant). Back on board, sunset dinners on the aft deck are common—local wine, grilled fish, laughter, and stories from the sea.
