The course is for novices and focuses on boating safety, NSW Boating regulations, low speed close quarters handling, navigation and seamanship, docking, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations. The course runs from 9am - 4pm and includes theory sessions and practical handling / skills work. We make sure you have enough practical boat skills to get your NSW General Boat License. Our vessels have the required safety gear, inflatable lifejackets and spray jackets for your use. Eastsails’ training vessels include: A custom built 8m tender with twin 115hp counter rotating outboard engines. An Arvor Weekender 23’ with an inboard 150hp engine bow thruster. A Haines Hunter 445R runabout with a 50hp 4 stroke outboard engine. Eastsail conducts this course in our classrooms or aboard the boats for practical sessions. We will show you through the 12m (40ft) Riviera 4000 Cruiser to ensure you understand what a larger cruiser looks like, the safety, engineering and interior space. Lunch break is for 30 minutes, food is not included but our marina has a cafe and toilets. A written quiz is given at the end of the day to assess your boating skills. ► Las Palmas, almost an unavoidable stopover on the Atlantic route from Europe, welcomed thousands of sailors during the month of November, when the north-easterly trade winds begin to set in. These crews included a total of 1,300 sailors flying the ARC colors (ARC and ARC +) aboard 253 sailboats. During our visits to the pontoons, we got a measure of the Starlink revolution: only one entrant was equipped last year, compared with 80% of the fleet today... The quality of the connections offered by this satellite operator makes it possible to efficiently follow weather developments, keep in touch those ashore and even work as if at the office! For the first time since we’ve been following ocean-going crews, Vincent, aboard Outremer 51 Piment Rouge, will be sharing his transatlantic passage with us via his videos, which we’ll be relaying. Another special feature of this 2023 edition will be the large number of diesel cans strapped to the guardwires: in a context of very light winds, unusual for the season, the engines (authorized with a penalty for the Multihull category) are likely to be much in demand aboard many of the multihulls. After two weeks of seminars, meetings and safety inspections, the atmosphere on the docks was becoming truly electric during the last three days running up to the start. Studying the weather, stocking up on fresh supplies, washing fruit and vegetables - everyone realized that there was an ocean to cross... Some crew members are more Zen than others: the oldest sailor in the ARC, Joff Hutchinson, 89, declared: “I’ve been sailing for 82 years and I’ve always wanted to cross the Atlantic. Now that my sons have retired, there’s no better time”. The start was relaxed, with the fleet setting off in a light southerly breeze and glorious sunshine, guaranteeing a smooth start for everyone to get their sea legs. ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! 🥨 How to tie the Bowline. A Super Easy method. You could call this "Spock's Bowline". ..... If you sometimes struggle with the bowline, which way to coil or twist the loop in, which side of the standing part to loop the working end round, blah, blah, blah, then try this method. It uses your hand as a "Bowline Guide"..it's logical Cap'n. .... Just make a 🖖"Vulcan Salute" with your hand and loop your working end once around your 3rd and 4th fingers. Clamp the loop and the standing part with these fingers. ... It works with either hand, we're showing the right hander's version. If you're a leftie, just do the mirror opposite. ... Then pass your line around the back of your hand and make the bowline as usual (up the hole, round the standing part, back down the hole). Just follow the shape of your hand as you go round . Works for me, anyway. .... Live Long and Prosper. ...
