Here's a glimpse of the upcoming build series of my new tender to Flying Spur! The mast sections are mated together by an inner-ring of epoxied carbon fiber tape The sail was cut from tanbark cloth by Sailrite. I assembled everything from there I decided to use a mast track instead of the common "zippered sleeve" for reasons of simplicity and durability. The challenge was to demonstrate that it is possible to break away from the sacrosanct idea of a 40-foot minimum size. The Lagoon 380 did it back in the day, so why not other models? Compared to the 1190, the 1170 offers much greater comfort - and an extra 3 tons of weight that logically comes as the cost. The deck layout features two helm stations at the after end of the hulls. The sail plan is somewhat restricted by the self-tacking jib, though this has the advantage of further simplifying maneuvers. The three-section, pivoting bay window provides excellent circulation between the cockpit and the nacelle. In the port hull, the owner’s cabin offers a beautiful queen-size double berth, set athwartships. The galley is moved to the starboard hull. The first Seawind 1170 was presented at the Annapolis Boat Show, and series production is currently underway in a new factory in Turkey - the manufacturer’s first commercial objective is to establish this new model on the European market. We crossed the North Sea from the UK to the Netherlands on the 3+4 February 2022! It was a 33 hour sail trip, including 14 hours of night sailing. To experience how this is, I made a 25 seconds movie. So you have an idea of what you see during the night, or better: don’t see 😊. The red light is the left front of the boat and the green light is the right side of the boat. Also listen to the sound of the ship sailing in the dark! I send this movie to one of my uncles via WhatsApp and he replied, he thought his phone was broken when playing this movie, because his screen turned so dark!
