Es ist Ende Oktober und eine Hitzewelle hat Südeuropa fest im Griff. Von Almerimar segeln wir einen Tag und eine Nacht bis nach Gibraltar, wo wir bei La Linea ankern. Der Wind dreht und wir kreuzen auf die andere Seite der Bucht. In Palmones nutzen wir den kurzen Weg zum Gewerbegebiet, um Vorräte zu bunkern. Noch einmal günstig tanken und weiter geht's, wieder mit einer Nachtfahrt nach Portimão an der Felsalgarve. It is the end of October and a heatwave has southern Europe firmly in its grip. We sail from Almerimar for a day and a night to Gibraltar, where we anchor at La Linea. The wind changes direction and we tack to the other side of the bay. In Palmones, we take advantage of the short distance to the industrial estate to stock up on supplies. We fill up with fuel at a good price once again and continue on our way, sailing through the night to Portimão on the rocky Algarve coast.

Diesmal segeln wir mal wieder größere Strecken, immer weiter nach Westen. Als erstes geht es von Sizilien rund 200 Seemeilen nach Sardinien und von dort knapp 550 Seemeilen nach Almerimar am spanischen Festland. Dabei geht einiges kaputt und ein Containerschiff nähert sich auf Kollisionskurs. Geht das gut? This time we are sailing longer distances again, further and further west. First, we sail around 200 nautical miles from Sicily to Sardinia and from there just about 550 nautical miles to Almerimar on the Spanish mainland. Some things break along the way and a container ship approaches on a collision course. Will everything turn out alright?

Mit Rauschefahrt segeln wir von Malta mit Ankerstopps auf Favignana und am Kap San Vito nach Arenella bei Palermo, wo wir vor zwei Jahren schon mal geankert hatten. Diesmal wollen hoch zum Monte Pellegrino, dem 600 m hohen Hausberg von Palermo. Kommt mit auf eine abenteerliche Wanderung mit traumhafter Aussicht. Von Valetta geht´s weiter zur faszinierenden Insel Gozo im Nordwesten von Malta. Dort erwartet uns eine traumhafte Ankerbucht inmitten steiler Felswände. Mit dem Dinghi starten wir zu einem ganz besonderen Highlight der Insel: Einem Felstunnel, der zu einem Binnensee führt. Bei Wellengang fahren wir rein in dieses Nadelöhr. Kommen wir dort heil durch? Mit einer Nachtfahrt segeln wir von Siracusa auf Sizilien nach Valetta auf Malta, wo wir neben Freunden zum ersten Mal an Mooringbojen festmachen. Von Galaxidi geht es durch den Kanal von Korinth über die kleine Insel Trizonia und das bezaubernde Städtchen Nafpaktos Richtung Messolonghi. Auf dem Weg dorthin müssen wir unter der Rio-Andirrio-Brücke durchsegeln und uns dafür per Funk die Freigabe zur Brückendurchfahrt holen. Ein wirklich beeindruckendes Bauwerk! Mit ordentlich Wind von Achtern segeln wir weiter nach Messolonghi, wo Dirk erstmal die neuen Motorfüße einbaut. Der letzte Abend in Griechenland wird unvergesslich. Heike und Peter laden uns in die Berge zu einem herrlichen Spaziergang mit anschließendem Essen in Anatolis Cafebar ein. Schöner hätte der Abschied von Griechenland nicht sein können. Von nun an segeln wir nur noch nach Westen. Mal sehen, wie weit wir kommen. From Galaxidi, we sail through the Corinth Canal via the small island of Trizonia and the charming town of Nafpaktos towards Messolonghi. On the way there, we have to sail under the Rio-Andirrio Bridge and obtain permission to pass under it by radio. A truly impressive structure! With a good tailwind, we sail on to Messolonghi, where Dirk first installs the new engine mounts. Our last evening in Greece is unforgettable. Heike and Peter invite us to the mountains for a wonderful walk followed by dinner at Anatoli's café bar. Our farewell to Greece couldn't have been more beautiful. From now on, we'll only be sailing west. Let's see how far we get.

Anders als geplant kommen wir dieses Jahr erst viel später los. Bei einem Heimaturlaub habe ich einen üblen Fahrradunfall, bei dem ich mir die Schulter breche. Nach der OP folgt eine mehrmonatige Zwangspause. Zurück bei meinem Schatz in Griechenland starten wir gleich mit den letzten Vorbereitungen. Und dann geht es endlich los, durch den Kanal von Korinth zum Golf von Patras. Immer schön weiter nach Westen. Contrary to our plans, we are setting off much later this year. While on holiday at home, I have a nasty cycling accident in which I break my shoulder. The operation is followed by a forced break of several months. Back with my sweetheart in Greece, we immediately start with the final preparations. And then we finally set off through the Corinth Canal to the Gulf of Patras. Always continuing westwards.

Von der Kykladeninsel Milos segeln wir zur schön grünen Insel Spetses, wo wir steile Hänge hochkraxeln. Von dort geht’s weiter nach Porto Heli ui unserem Winterankerplatz. Hier werden wir die nächsten Monate bleiben, Freunde treffen und uns den Bootsprojekten widmen. In der Ankerbucht liegt seit ein paar Jahren ein Schiffswrack auf Grund. From there, we continue to Porto Heli, our winter anchorage. We will stay here for the next few months, meet friends and devote ourselves to boat projects. In diesem Video nähe ich eine neue Fensterfolie in unser großes Seitenteil der Kuchenbude. Dafür gibt es einige Tricks und Kniffe, die einem die Arbeit erleichtern und schnell zu einem tollen Ergebnis führen. Ich verfahre so, wie ein Segelmacher es bei einem unserer kleinen Seitenfester gemacht hat. Für die Näharbeiten nutze ich meine Heavy-Duty-Nähmaschine, es müsste aber auch mit jeder handelüblichen Haushaltsnähmaschine funktionieren, wenn die Fensterfolie nicht allzu dick ist. Wichtig ist die richtige Nadelstärke und ein festes, uv-beständiges Nähgarn. Viel Erfolg bei Eurem Nähprojekt 😀 In this video, I sew a new window into the large side panel of our bimini. There are a few tricks and tips that make the job easier and quickly lead to great results. I do it the same way a sailmaker did it on one of our small side windows. I use my heavy-duty sewing machine for the sewing work, but any standard household sewing machine should work as long as the window film is not too thick. Willkommen in den Kykladen 😀🇬🇷 Über Ermioni segeln wir zur Insel Kithnos, wo wir unsere Drohne starten. Doch plötzlich erscheint während des Fluges auf dem Bildschirm ein Software-Update von DJI, das sich nicht schließen lässt! Die Akkuwarnung fängt an zu hupen! Das Update läuft langsam durch, dann drückt Dirk auf den Fly-Home-Button und die Drohne ist auch auf dem Weg zu uns ... bis der Akku leer ist, die Drohne im Wasser versinkt! Können wir die Drohne retten? Welcome to the Cyclades 😀🇬🇷 We sail via Ermioni to the island of Kithnos, where we launch our drone. But suddenly, during the flight, a DJI software update appears on the screen that cannot be closed! The battery warning starts beeping! The update runs slowly, then Dirk presses the fly-home button and the drone is on its way back to us... until the battery runs out and the drone sinks into the water! Can we save the drone?

Wir haben für zwei Wochen Besuch an Bord. Mein Sohn Flori und seine Freundin Lea wollen mit uns durch den Saronischen Golf segeln. Wir starten in Varkiza, segeln mit den beiden zum Aphaia-Tempel auf Aegina und weiter zum schnuckeligen Ort Poros. Nach ein paar Tagen müssen wir leider wieder den Rückweg nach Varkiza antreten. Dann heißt es Abschied nehmen. In wildem Ritt segeln wir zu zweit zurück nach Poros. Dort steckt Dirk sich bei einem Freund mit Corona an. Ab jetzt hat jeder vorübergehend seinen eigenen Rumpf und ich desinfiziere mich mit Ouzo. Es wirkt: ich stecke mich nicht an! We have visitord on board for a fortnight. My son Flori and his girlfriend Lea want to sail with us through the Saronic Gulf. We start in Varkiza, sail with them to the Temple of Aphaia on Aegina and on to the cosy village of Poros. After a few days, we unfortunately have to make our way back to Varkiza. Then it's time to say goodbye. The two of us sail back to Poros on a wild ride. There, Dirk infects a friend with coronavirus. From now on, everyone has their own hull temporarily and I disinfect myself with ouzo. It works: I don't get infected!

Bei ordentlich Wind rauscht Suria durch die Wellen, bis der Anker sich im Nordwesten der Insel in den Sand gräbt. Am Ankerplatz passiert es dann ... Aber mehr dazu im Video. Welcome on board of our catamaran Suria 😀 This time, we are sailing on to the southern Cycladic island Kea. With a good wind, Suria rushes through the waves until the anchor digs into the sand in the north-west of the island. At the anchorage, it happens... But more about that in the video.

In diesem Video fertige ich Textilscreens als Sonnenschutz für unser Boot an. Dadurch reduzieren wir die Sonneneinstrahlung um über 90 % und haben trotzdem eine gute Sicht nach außen. Als Material verwende ich Soltis 86, Tenax-Knöpfe, Gurtband, Klippverschlüsse, Klettband und als Nähgarn Serabond. Dies ist keine Werbung, da ich das Material regulär gekauft habe. Diese Art von Sonnenschutz kann auch in anderen Bereichen angewendet werden, wie zum Beispiel auf Dachflächenfenstern, Wohnmobilscheiben, als Markise bzw. Sonnensegel oder als Balkonsichtschutz. In this video, I make textile screens as sun protection for our boat. This reduces the amount of sunlight by over 90 % and still gives us a good view to the outside. The material I use is Soltis 86, Tenax buttons, webbing, clip fasteners, Velcro and Serabond sewing thread. This is not an advert as I bought the material regularly. This type of sun protection can also be used in other areas, such as on roof windows, motorhome windows, as an awning or sun sail or as a balcony screen.

Kalimera von der schönen Insel Skyros, der südlichsten Sporadeninsel in der westlichen Ägäis. Hier suchen wir in einem stillgelegten Hafen Schutz vor dem Starkwind "Meltemi". Mit den Klapprädern geht´s auf Inselerkundung. Kommt mit zur wunderhübschen Chora, mit dem Kloster und der Burgruine auf dem Gipfel und auf die andere Seite der Insel, wo wir in Lanaria Zeuge eines Anlegemanövers werden, das durch den Marinero an Land komplett im Chaos endet. Und dann fängt Dirk noch einen 10 kg schweren Thunfisch. Verhungern werden wir erstmal nicht. Kalimera from the beautiful island of Skyros, the southernmost Sporades island in the western Aegean. Here we seek shelter from the strong ‘Meltemi’ wind in a disused harbour. We explore the island on our folding bikes. Come with us to the beautiful Chora, with the monastery and castle ruins on the summit, and to the other side of the island, where we witness a mooring manoeuvre in Lanaria that ends in complete chaos due to the marinero on land. And then Dirk catches a 10kg tuna. We won't starve for a while.

Doch auf der Insel Peristera erwischt uns ein Unwetter und plötzlich sehen wir einen Tornadorüssel ....! Come with us to the northern Sporades. Greece shows its most beautiful side again.
