You Won't Believe What It Costs to Sail Here!!!! (Calico Skies Sailing Ep. 128)

The cost to cruise the paradise that is San Blas is less than we’d imagined. Our new spot, a beautiful island with deep water all the way up to the shore, has that untouched feeling. But when a veggie boat selling Budweiser comes by we begin to understand that not only is this a very convenient place to sail, it’s also pretty cheap, too. We load up on veggies at very good prices and also experience the underwater world for this first time with a dive in super clear water. Pretty coral and brightly colored fish abound. A bonfire on the beach with friends rounds out the day, and for dinner we enjoy chicken and a salad with everything purchased from the food boat! We also try our first homemade focaccia bread - yum! Before long we wake up in a new island, with a new and beautiful view - This time of the mountain range near mainland Panama. Coffee on the hook with our buddy boat nearby is the best way to begin a day. Of course it’s a boat so we’re dealing with some issues - Weak denatured alcohol (purchased by mistake in Bocas del Toro) is making cook time super slow and both our dinghy - and dinghy wheels - have leaks. Bill pumps the dingy up and we opt to deal with broken things later and head to the beach instead. A nearby island features a gorgeous white sand beach and once again we hit the water for a snorkel. We’re blown away by the giant, healthy coral and some of the clearest water we’ve ever seen. We see many fish, spiny lobsters and a puffer fish, hanging out in a shallow cave. We’ve now been in San Blas for almost three weeks and besides it’s beauty and easy, protected anchorages we’re also pleasantly surprised by how well priced the food and booze is here. Not to mention the convenience of it’s delivery.
