But getting back to the mainland wasn't just about the boat, it was part of a plan we've been hinting at for a couple of episodes now. Before we could take off, there were a few boat jobs to knock out first, the usual list that comes with leaving her behind for a while. Once that was done, we packed our bags and headed to the airport. We flew halfway around the world, from Fiji to France, to surprise my dad and sister and the rest of my French family, who we haven't seen in years. It's a wild contrast, going from turquoise water and remote islands to vineyards, wine country, and villages that haven't changed in centuries. A completely different kind of beautiful.
