When we last left you we were sitting out a storm at Ko Rok. Now that it has subsided it is time to push on up towards Phuket. We make it to the southern entrance of Phiphi and are horrified to find this once peaceful anchorage packed with dive boats, long tails, day trippers, super yachts, hundreds of private mooring buoys and not forgetting mini booze cruises. Jamie takes a quick dinghy ride and does a two minute recce of this rather popular holiday destination. The next morning we up anchor and motor out from the bay. Although the weather is overcast one can't help but be impressed with Phi Phi's natural beauty. Eventually there is enough wind to get the sails out and we motorsail towards Phuket. Halfway across we spot a strange object in the water. It turned out to be an upturned longtail. One reason why night-sailng in this area is not recommended. The clouds clear up and we make our way to the lee of Ko Mai Ton, a quiet, calm anchorage in stark contrast to Phi-Phi. As Millie and I continue to fish, Jamie decides a dip is in order. With the sky speckled with fluffy clouds we were in for a treat of a sunset. No fish for supper this evening but that was made up for by the 360 degree vista. In the tropics it turns from light to dark quite quickly, but in the transitional period you can guarantee some spectacular sunsets. Looking out across the open bay everything turns pink, and then purple, and then dark shadows until eventually it is pitch black, the horizon lit by a single squid fishing boat.
