The Horrifying Western Reserve Tragedy
On August 30th, 1892, the nearly brand new Western Reserve, the first steel hulled freighter on the Great Lakes, broke in two in a late summer Lake Superior storm. Her innovation might have been her downfall. She took with her 26 passengers and crew. Incredibly, one man managed to survive and share his story.
