St Pierre, a small picturesque town in the Northwest corner of Martinique in the Caribbean... built at the foot of an active volcano with a 5000-year history of eruptions, the town was finally claimed in an instant on May 8th in 1902 when the side of the volcano burst under pressure resulting in the worst volcanic eruption of our time that literally incinerated the entire population of over 30,000 people in less than a minute.
