OUI FLING is a bespoke Spirit 52D conceived as an elegant modern classic optimised purely racer. She has a classic flush‐deck profile but with traditional overhangs, OUI FLING features a weight‐minimised structure including a carbon keel blade, rudder, winches, and fittings—while retaining the craftsmanship of Spirit Yachts. The yacht’s hull is wooden epoxy construction—built using sapele ring frames, yellow cedar planking, and fine fiberglass fairing—with structural carbon reinforcements at load points for stiffness. She displaces just under 7 tonnes, nearly two tonnes lighter than standard Spirit 52 models, and carries approximately 3.25t of lead ballast, delivering outstanding stability and sail-carrying ability—even in light wind conditions. Deck ergonomics have been optimised for racing: a clean flush deck devoid of stanchions, a large bespoke cockpit customised for crew, and separate helm and tactician stations. Electric winches ensure efficient sail handling, while all running rigging is routed aft for enhanced control and speed management. Although she lacks a full interior—merely minimal headroom seating and essential facilities—the vessel’s simplicity allows for maximum lightness and agility. Launched just seven months after initial design discussions, OUI FLING swiftly won her IRC class at British Classic Week in Cowes 2021.
