Sailing Away for Good, Final Days in the U.S.(Calico Skies Sailing Ep 99)

The time has finally come for us to leave the U.S for the foreseeable future and point our bow towards distant shores once more! We are in the Dry Tortugas staging for a weather window to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Luckily there is no lack of entertainment here as we wait for weather. With settled weather we decide to take Delos out on a dive mission. We've heard rumors of a huge goliath grouper in the area and we are seeking him out! Bill, Brian, and Kazza go on the first dive, and it isn't long before Bill spots the grouper hiding out under the Wind Jammer wreck. The grouper is huge, about the size of a fully grown man. Grace is up on the second dive and we seek to show her the grouper. We find it and she is taken aback (and a little scared 🤣) of this huge fish Just like that, our weather window arrives. We start prepping the boat for passage, getting the dinghy motor off and dinghy securely fastened with ratchet straps. This passage requires crossing the Gulf Stream twice and we provide a detailed explanation of our strategy and sail plan for each leg of the journey. We opt to setup the code zero at anchor before we get in a seaway and begin to raise the anchor.
