Sailing Australias East Coast: Waiting Out Bad Weather in Bundaberg Liveaboard Sailing Episode 131

77 צפיות· 14/08/26

Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we have been learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while preparing to sail around the world. We have now left the dock and our adventure has begun so hit subscribe to come along on the journey of a lifetime. If you’re into sailing adventures, beginner sailing, sailboat ownership, cruising lifestyle, and traveling the world by sailboat, our journey is all about real-time learning, ocean freedom, and realising our dream of world cruising under sail...Let's go! Bad weather doesn't always have to ruin a sailing adventure! In this episode of our liveaboard sailing around the world journey, strong winds force us to change our plans and spend some unexpected time in Bundaberg, Queensland. While we'd much rather be anchored in a secluded bay, staying in the marina gives us the perfect opportunity to explore one of Australia's most interesting coastal towns, tackle some essential boat maintenance, and prepare Astrid the Wombat for the next leg of our adventure. Join us as we discover what makes Bundaberg much more than just a stopover for cruising sailors. From exploring the local sights to visiting an incredible coral farm, stocking up on supplies, and ticking off those never-ending boat jobs, this episode shows the reality of the liveaboard sailing lifestyle. Life on a sailboat isn't always perfect weather and tropical anchorages—sometimes the smartest decision is staying safe, waiting for the perfect weather window, and making the most of your time ashore. If you're dreaming of sailing around the world, planning to become a liveaboard sailor, or simply love watching real sailing adventures, this episode is packed with honest insights into what life is really like cruising Australia's spectacular east coast. Whether you're a beginner sailor, an experienced cruiser, a sailboat owner, or someone who dreams of travelling the world by sailboat, we hope our journey inspires you to cast off the lines and chase your own adventure. Our mission is to explore the world by sailboat, sharing both the unforgettable destinations and the everyday realities of living aboard a cruising yacht. From weather routing and passage planning to marina life, boat maintenance, provisioning, and discovering hidden gems along the Queensland coast, you'll experience every step of our journey aboard Astrid the Wombat.
