S2 E8: Removing the thru-hulls (Dominican Republic)

Y'all already know how intimidating of a project it was for me to remove the thru-hulls. I had just assumed the thru-hulls were permanently in the boat with 5200 and that it would be near impossible to pry them out. Well, if I can do it, it's NOT near impossible, that's for sure. And? I did it. All the thru-hulls and bolts and hardware are out of the hull, and four out of the five thru-hull backing plates I have inspected. The only backing plate I haven't inspected is the one in the v-berth. I was so nasty from work that I just didn't want to dirty my bed sheets. I'll get to that backing plate tomorrow before I start on any other projects. So far I think I will be keeping two backing plates (the sink and starboard scupper were fine) and building two new ones (the engine intake and the port scupper were bad). I'm not sure about the v-berth, which was for the head. Since I am doing a composting toilet, I will probably glass that thru-hull in. There are extra holes in the boat from two depth sounders and a knot meter. My future steps will look something like this: I will replace the knot meter, glass in the smaller depth-sounder hole and do a transducer inside the boat, and the larger of the two depth sounder holes will be for the water-maker.
