RSHYR 2024 | Juan Vila Interview - Comanche Master Lock
2024 has been a busy year for renowned Spanish navigator Juan Vila, who was a member of the Alinghi Red Bull Racing team for the America’s Cup (he has competed in 10 America’s Cup campaigns). The disappointment of his team not making it through to the AC finals had a significant silver lining for Juan, as it allowed him to join the SHK Scallywag team as navigator for the Rolex Middle Sea Race. In a very close battle with Remon Vos’s 100 footer Black Jack, Scallywag took out Line Honours. “I was happy to win” says Juan, “but I think I was even happier to see how happy Witty (skipper David Witt) was!” Juan Vila will be navigator aboard Matt Allen’s and James Mayo’s Master Lock Comanche for the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, binging his experience of successfully navigating a number of other 100 footers in this race before. We caught up with him at the CYCA.
