Raising the Kickup Rudder
In this episode, I go over the most common techniques for raising and lowering the kick-up rudder on a small sailboat. I created this episode in response to numerous recent discussions and questions with newer boat owners about how to raise and lower the kick-up rudder. In the video, I demonstrate my favorite technique for raising and lowering the rudder and also cover the other most common methods. Of course, some owners have replaced their factory rudders altogether for a RudderCraft rudder that uses and control line and a gas strut. Unfortunately, as of the making of this video, RudderCraft is no longer accepting orders for their performance rudders. So if you want to go with that option, you'll have to find a used one or buy a boat that already has the RudderCraft conversion.
