The search for breeze was real out in Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday as the New York Yacht Club American Magic team opted to stay inshore, close to base with its enormous star-spangled banner flying high from the team crane, flittering across the Bay chasing zephyrs. Not all was lost though as a blistering 19-minute airborne run will have given the data analysts plenty to get excited about, but it was a rare aberration on a day dominated by runs in the 1–2-minute range before Patriot settled back down gracefully to displacement. A day punctuated by long breaks gave the crew plenty of time to play with a new piece of hardware, a hydraulic ram, that appeared to be placed on the foredeck. Lucas Calabrese was keeping close counsel in interview afterwards about the new tech, saying: “we’re just trying to get the most out of the out of the systems that we’ve got there for the jib…but because it was so light today we didn't get to use it.” Let the speculation begin –Ttack tensioner? Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away.
