We'd appreciate the support: https://www.patreon.com/boatfoolssailing Sailboat design is an art. I feel like modern sailboat design has become homogenous. If you're looking for used sailboats, I make the case for classic plastic sailboats over modern plastic sailboats. I will also make the case that, depending on your budget, a classic plastic might actually be more affordable. Case in point, if you take out a $180,000 loan to finance your new sailboat, and finance it at 5% for 20 years - that boat will cost you $285,000 - in other words, you will pay $105,000 in interest over the life of the loan! Why not spend $50k, fix up an older boat, and have some $$$ left over for some rum? Makes good sense to me! Not only that, you will look much cooler on a fixed up classic! People will hate me for this episode, but that's ok. It's just my opinion. Plus, I am just getting over COVID which ruined my vacation and put me in a salty mood. Enjoy! Ok, so we have a winner for the hat! The list prices for the used classic boats shown in this video are as follows: The 1983 Bristol 45.5: $140,000 The 1993 Cape George 34: $139,000 The 1988 Ta Shing Tashiba 31: $69,900 The 1981 Baltic 42: $59,000 There some great deals out there for used sailboats!
