Built and designed by Dutch-Australian Yvette Ini Wijnen, this incredible vessel stands over 20m tall, 71ft long and 43ft wide. Built using the West system from Queensland Pine, Gaia’s Dream is the largest Pacific Proa in the World and the only one of her kind. She cruises at approx 25-20kts and her motor runs on veggie oil. She has an inbuilt rainwater collection system and can carry up to 12litres in 2 x 600ltr tanks. This was the largest of many Proa’s built by her (past owner) Yvette-who yesterday handed Gaiasdream over to Gary Hughes and his crew. In this video we’re taking a dry run through a ‘shunt’ (the alternative to tacking) before the boys get underway. Gary has started www.bigredyacht.org , a charity foundation to facilitate the transportation of medical aid and equipment to the Louisiades. Gary also aims to have a crack at a few world speed Records. You can follow Gaiasdream and her crew on AIS as they venture North or via Facebook @bigredyacht or Instagram #bigredyacht. EZIYACHT wishes you all the best in sailing. For more videos like this click Subscribe, like or leave a comment.
