Functionality and Servicibilty - making our Bunk Gussets awesome

We think very carefully about everything we are changing on Paikea. Not just our new carbon rotating mast or the addition of a carbon beam and longeron, we also look at how we want the interior to function. Paikea has a lot of timber which is heavy and because the timber floors and furniture have not been laminated in place they are not really helping out structurally either. Our aim is to lighten Paikea byreplacing the timber floors and cupboards (and hopefully the galley) with foam and eglass. We are using polyester resin because that is what Paikea is built from. But if we are going to go to the effort of changing all of this then we also need to make sure that the new design easily servicible and properly thought through. This means building gussets that will strengthen and stiffen the bunk as well as being the framework for our cubbies for clothes. We also need to make sure we can run our services through high load areas safely and can easily access them should we need to.
