Four Dazcats Up Close and Real: Epic Round Ireland Race
The adventure unfolds amidst an impressive backdrop of huge skies, massive scenery and superb commentary. It doesn't get much more real than racing 700+nm offshore and the Dazcat teams tell it as it is. Four Dazcats, armed with GoPros, embarked on the exhilarating SSE Renewables Round Ireland Race joining a fleet of 48 boats in a high-stakes adventure. Their mission? To leave Ireland and all its islands (except Rockall) to starboard. Along the way they faced a huge variety of sea and wind conditions as the Atlantic Ocean meets the notorious waters of the Irish coast. It was nobody's ideal conditions and of the 48 registered boats 13 retired for various reasons. Amidst the trials of the elements, the Dazcats revelled in the beauty of the Irish coastline and provided viewers with a tour guide's perspective intermingled with heated competition, commentary on conditions at sea, sail plans and life on board. The Dazcat teams provided an intimate glimpse into their world, showcasing the boats and the passionate sailors behind them. It's clear that Dazcat owners are in it for the thrill of the sail and all the pleasure that goes with that. All are racing their hardest, in it to win it, yet often behave more like cruising tourists than racers-one well known for its love of good food even managed to cook up a BBQ dinner mid-race, thereafter dubbed as 'Team BBQ'. This behind-the-scenes look reveals the intensity of serious racing, accomplished with a touch of Dazcat flair. Can they really keep the boats moving in just 5 knots of breeze? What sails do they use? How do they stay safe while surfing downwind at over 20 knots? What challenges do they encounter, and how do they overcome them? How hard can you actually push a Dazcat? These questions and more are answered as the crews share their race with you. Simon, Hissy Fit's owner, is Director at the Multihull Centre and builder of Dazcat. Pushing his boat to the limit in all conditions is Simon's speciality so pay close attention to the builder and how he sails if you want to know more about the Dazcat principles in action. In fact, pay close attention to them all. This epic race is a testament to the spirit of adventure and the love of great sailing that defines Dazcats and their owners. Each boat brings their own story to life, making for an unforgettable race around Ireland and an up-close look at Dazcats in action.. After race quote from Foxy: We've been so happy and proud to be part of team Dazcat - a bunch of wonderful people sharing adventure in properly impressive boats. The way Foxy looked after us for 12+ hours in the wild and relentless Irish Sea with gusts of 36 knots was reassuring to the core. Thank you #dazcat for building such strong and amazing boats. With thanks to Royal Ocean Racing Club for organising, Wicklow Sailing Club for hosting and sponsors SSE Renewables. Music with thanks to @Landofthe Giants, 'The Drop'; @JohnFairhurst, 'Old Lady and @MusicforSport
