Fitting the engine bed (part 2) - SV Tapatya EP81

Building a cruising sailboat This is the second part of the installation of the Volvo Penta saildrive engine bed. After the prep work last week, we now fit the engine bed plug, seal that thoroughly and then epoxy glue the engine bed in position. This is followed by multiple layers of glass fibre tape in epoxy and a final fillet of thickened epoxy, resulting in a good, solid fit that should be fit for purpose. Once the engine is fitted, this will be further reinforced with steel plates, fabricated to connect the engine mount adaptors to the boat floors. The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel.
