Ep.55. TESLA MODEL Y road trip across Ontario.

Scenery, drafting to save energy, miscalculations to next charger, and car-camping! Borders of Canada are still closed but as Canadian citizens we could enter with a 2-week quarantine (Ep. 53) . After Pierre, Lisa and Tiller finished the 2-week quarantine at Stoney Lake in Eastern Ontario, we decide to drive to Western Ontario to visit family who live in Winnipeg. But, just after our quarantine is finished it is announced that hurricane Isaias is going to hit Boston. We debate about going back to Boston, but based on predicted wind speeds and fact that we had prepared the boat before leaving, we decided to continue our trip and ask our boat neighbor to keep an eye on BioTrek. Ivan (see Ep.50 and 52) ties BioTrek’s fendors down because they are light and could blow up and away from the side of boat. Ivan tied them together with cords, and ran a line under the hull to the safety strap inside the hull to keep them well-anchored to the side of the boat. A TESLA road trip is not challenging anymore because there are now Tesla charging stations across Canada. However, we sometime push the limits. A metric miscalculation meant that we to had to rely on Pierre’s skills to wire up some charging at a campground, if we didn’t want to spend days there rather than overnight! We love our model Y, which is roomy for Tiller and all the boat gear we seem to carry around. The Model Y is large enough for car camping, and we stayed in the car for our nighttime stops on the trip. This was the safest place, even if COVID levels are down in Canada. During our trip, the nights were cool enough to need heat. We love the car camping mode! We were meeting family at a lodge on Crow’s lake near Nestor Falls, just beside Lake of the Woods. We stayed at Hansen’s Lodge. We planned the stay in a remote Lodge because there is a 2 week quarantine if we were to drive into Manitoba – we could not take time for another 2 week quarantine! This area of Ontario is full of wildlife: we saw bald eagles, foxes, a bear, and of course raccoons at night. The cabin was modern with new beds and super comfortable. The Hansen family took us waterskiing, on lake tours and a fishing trip, and then cooked the fish for us! We really pack a lot into a 3-night stay! Next time will be longer!!!
