E49 - Cobourg Peninsula, Victoria Settlement

We leave Croker Island and head to the Cobourg Peninsula. We check out the Black Point Ranger Station and take the billabong walk, before heading down to the site of the Victoria Settlement, established 1838 and disbanded 1849. It was built after a plan of the British government and the East India Company to set up a military settlement and a re-victualling point for shipping through Torres Strait. We then head to Alcaro Bay at the very western tip of the Coburg Peninsula in preparation for our crossing of Van Diemen's Gulf into Darwin. #seawind1260 #coburgpeninsula
