CYCA Newcastle Bass Island Race Start 2016

In a fading nor’easter the 28 strong fleet in the CYCA’s Newcastle Bass Island Race were led out of Sydney Harbour on Friday evening by Jim Delegat’s Giacomo and Rupert Henry’s Chinese Whisper just after sunset. The fleet experienced a slow but steady beat up the coast, with the leaders turning south from Newcastle early on Saturday morning, with the fleet gaining pace down the coast ahead of a building nor’easter. Giacomo and Chinese Whisper passed Sydney Harbour at about 11.30am with a significant lead on the rest of the fleet. Giacomo was the first boat to enter Sydney Harbour just after 8pm on Saturday evening. The Bow Caddy team filmed the race start from North Head with the dramatic sunset backdrop of the City.
