Crossing The Dangerous SHALLOW REEF BAR At Devil's Cay | Sailboat Story 111

We sail over a dangerous, shallow reef bar that is notorious for grounding boats in order to get to Devil's Cay. Turns out that crossing this bar wasn't as big of a deal as the rumors would suggest. There's actually quite a bit of water over the bar even at low water - around 4ft or so. Crossing the bar is really just a matter of waiting until high tide, in which case, there will be more like 7ft of water over the bar, and also being mindful of avoiding a wind against tide situation at the bar. Once we dropped anchor at Devil's Cay, we spent the day hanging out at the beach and letting the kids play. It was really nice to be around 4 other cruising families, especially in an area that is somewhat remote. Later that evening, Tambi had the idea for building a fire on the beach. She gave me orders to gather wood. I obeyed. Tromping through the Bahamian brush I went in search for dried out branches. Within half an hour I amassed a pile of sticks large enough for a beach fire. Tambi built the fire. Weenies were roasted. Baked beans were consumed. Stringed instruments were played. Songs were sung. We very much enjoyed our time at Devil's Cay. Thanks for watching!!
