This is the third video in the Building a Balance 442 Catamaran series. Here you will follow the build of the first Balance 442 Catamaran from tooling to launch and sea trials of Hull #1. This video shows the progress on the bimini/cockpit roof plug, and the progress on the deck and cockpit plug. It also shows the construction of the water and fuel tank plugs and molds. Lastly, we look at the entire cockpit, deck and hull mock up that we carry out during the construction of the first hull. This is a very time and labor intensive exercise, but worthwhile: it allows us to examine the layout, flow and functionality of every space in and on the vessel – and make any tweaks, this saving a lot of time in the final construction phases of, for example, the interior and deck fittings. At this stage in the construction we also take all our owners on a video walk through of the entire mocked up vessel. This is important when they have not seen the exact vessel they have bought and gives them an opportunity to ask questions and request any customizations. It is important to note that the plywood mock ups are temporary and do not represent the actual finish materials of a completed vessel. Once we are happy with the fit and flow of the vessel, the mocked up plywood is removed and construction on the actual interior of the vessel continues.
